Yes I donate and have been doing it for 32 years.

My friend and I are going to be donating money to one organization. I would like to donate to that one they showed on American Idol but I can’t remember the name of it or website. If anyone knows the link, I would appreciate it!

Does anybody know what charities in the Philadelphia area accept furniture donations? I’m looking for a charity that would be able to pick up the furniture. Tax-deductible is a plus, as is a charity that would be able to pick up the furniture w/ relatively short notice.

I do not know Philadelphia area, but in other communities
Goodwill is always a good bet.
Salvation Army often has a thrift store.

Many communities have Habitat for the Homeless, which builds homes for them, but then what furniture is to go into those homes? Well perhaps if they are building some new homes in your area, they might want to have a volunteer inspect your donation to see if it is suitable to go in one of those homes.

Many charities have retail stores, but not in all communites.

Look up in yellow pages for
SOCIAL & HUMAN SERVICES
for places like The Red Cross, then see which of them have local stores selling second hand furniture
many of them will do pick ups

There is a national organization called the Association of Fund Raising Distributors and Suppliers (AFRDS) that is a good source of information for you and your school. They are not directly connected to a specific fundraising distributor, so you should be able to find some objective information there. Their URL is: http://afrds.org/.

When you donate to any Non-Profit Organization such as Goodwill or to the Salvation Army, you cannot put a specific dollar amount for each item, ie: Old Navy Jeans, $15.00/ea. on the receipt you filled out. You can however, put an estimated figure for a bunch of items, "MIsc", approx $150.00. The total amt for all items within one calendar year can not exceed $800.00.

Like doggy sweaters/jackets. Are these usually on shelters’ wish lists?

probably not. they need towels, food, toys, stuff all the dogs can use. if they have an older dog with short hair it may need a coat, but shelters don’t usually dress the dogs. try donating it to a breed rescue.

We are moving, and have a ton of stuff to donate. We need a charity with a truck.

GoodWill Industries and some times the Salvation Army will pick up your "stuff" free of charge and if you want, will write you a claim for them for tax purposes if you ask.

I want to start an Equine and Canine rescue in my state, but donot have all the funds to purchase the land or the buildings. Can I start doing fundraisers and accepting donations to get this started before we are actually open? Also, any suggestions on getting started from scratch would be most helpful!

Have you applied for, and received, your non-profit status yet? If you have not, then no, you should not start soliciting for funds. You CAN, but you should not, because if you are not a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt organization, you will have to pay taxes on every cent you recieve.

Ive been through so much I am 19 years old and have been through 10 surgeries due to having a c-section, and serious life threatening surgeries my body looks like I’m a stitch up doll. I hate how I look and I have no confidence at all. I want to make a new change for myself to get the confidence again so I can be a better mother and wife, but dont have the money. Is there a way that I can get donations to have a change for the better and regain my confidence once again? Take away a 12 inch scar underneath my chest and have breast reduction?
The c-section is not my problem and my husband loves the way i look. It is me who doesnt. But anyways the scar that i am talking about is that I had a spleenactamy which a surgeion miss up big time the scar underneath my chest was suppose to me 3 inches long but I have a 12 inch scar underneath my ribs that looks like a train track. which bothers me ever so not just because of looks but because of the pain of it being so big and painful

a breast reduction can be covered by insurance so you don’t need any charitable donations for that.

I’d be proud of the c-section scar though. you could also always try scarguard or mederma or some scar lightener.
