Clothing Cures: Getting Started

Posted by admin on January 29th, 2010 and filed under clothes donations | 3 Comments »

Miari and Samantha begin to work on the project!

Clothing Cures is a unique organization run by four, 15 year old girls trying to make a difference. We collect clothing donations, then sell the clothing and give the proceeds to underprivileged people in Malawi. We really hope to improve the lives of others through this process and give back in a creative way.

Clothing Cures is just getting started and needs as much help as possible with getting the word out. We are really trying to help people in need by getting donations in the best way possible. As teenagers, we know that people love to shop, so why not create a shopping experience for others that can also give back to the world? We plan to set boxes in nearby stores for people in the neighborhood to donate their clothing. Then, in about a month, we will hold an event where locals can purchase these second hand clothes for an extremely reduced price. With the proceeds from this event, we can send the money to the people in Malawi who need the money more then we do. We will then repeat this procedure and hopefully donate as much money as possible to the people in Malawi.

Making A Difference: Bass, Berry & Sims PLC Donates Furniture, Computers To Metro Schools

Keith Simmons, managing partner at Bass, Berry & Sims PLC, is interviewed by Bob Sellers of WSMV-TV Channel 4 News regarding donations and philanthropy that resulted from the firms move into new Nashville offices in the Pinnacle at Symphony Place.

From the story:

With school budgets tight these days, it came as very welcome news when a downtown law firm that’s moving into a new building decided to donate its previously owned furniture and computers to Metro Schools.

After deciding to leave its former offices, the Bass, Berry and Sims law firm is donating roughly seven floors of furniture, such as desks, chairs, conference tables and computer equipment.

Keith Simmons is the managing partner of the law firm, which has been in business since the 1922. As he and hundreds of employees move into the new Pinnacle Building, they wanted the schools to receive their donation.

“We are trying to make our community as great as it can be. It’s been a great community for us and our clients. We want to contribute to it in every way we can,” said Keith Simmons.

Metro Schools said it’s thrilled to receive the donation and wants other businesses to keep it in mind when they are making donations.

Posted by admin on January 27th, 2010 and filed under donate | 3 Comments »

I am 15 years old, and this Christmas Instead of naming gifts i would like to receive, I would rather have my parents donate money to different organizations. Can any one give me any information on real, non profit organizations? Or good websites i can visit? Have you donated there before? If so, how was a the experience?

Check out MysticRhoads.Com

They are an amazing non profit who raise money for Jamaican kids. They provide there poor rural kids with clothes and school supplies and tuition. They use 100 percent of donations towards the kids.
