What are the best ways to find sponsership/large donations for a charity organisation?

Posted by admin on March 23rd, 2010 and filed under charity donations | 1 Comment »

Charity organisation being a independently funded lifeboat, not part of the RNLI.

1. Don’t try the channels of funding that the RNLI depends upon.

2. Instead do the following:-

a) business sponsorship:
(i) compile a list of large local businesses;
(ii) prepare a business case, showing necessary expenses, and some already achieved independent funding;
(iii) decide how you will reward major funding (e.g. mention in publicity, sponsor’s name included as part of of title of service, sponsor’s name and logo on the lifeboat livery etc);
(iv) arrange face-to-face meetings with presentations that are as professional in appearance as you can manage.

b) grants
(i) review most recent UK grants directories for likely funders;
(ii) check the internet for other funders;
(iii) seek advice from your local council of voluntary organisations (or similar);
(iv) submit as many applications as you can (bearing in mind that most will fail, not because of the lack of merit of the case, but because of the priorities set by the funders).

Good luck.

IRS Rules for Charitable Giving 2009

Uncle Sam encourages your generosity by allowing tax deductions for donations to not-for-profit organizations. To qualify, your donations must go to organizations with a 501(c) designation from the IRS. Most donations to places of worship, international relief organizations, and war veterans groups are deductible. For more information, visit: http://turbotax.intuit.com

My child requests donations for a charity in lieu of gifts what is the "proper" way to say that?

Posted by admin on March 21st, 2010 and filed under charity donations | 5 Comments »

The charity is the Humane Society. Should I include a small list of items that are greatly in need there? I don’t want to word it as so that anyone would be offended. It is most important that the children come and we do not expect anything from anyone. Would like help on proper etiquette wording please.. THANKS!

I have seen this wording…

"The best present is your presence."

You could add this…

"But, if you would like to give Johnny a gift, please make a small donation of money or goods to the local Humane Society."

By adding the word small you are telling them that if they do anything do something small; most people though will still be generous when they donate. I would not give them a list though. If they want to know something specific, they will ask.

Where can I get donations for our charity raffle?

Posted by admin on March 19th, 2010 and filed under charity donations | 10 Comments »

We are holding a raffle to raise money for our pre-school and need prizes. Can anyone suggest companies that donate to charity?

Try business owners in your area… i.e. shops, restaurants, hairdressers, etc. I fundraise too, and the locals seem only too pleased to donate because it’s advertising for them.

Good luck… it’s a lot of work but well worth it.

How to contact a charity organization to make donations in a childs name…?

Posted by admin on March 17th, 2010 and filed under charity donations | 5 Comments »

My daughters first birthday is comming up soon. My husband and I both have huge families that plan to attend the party..however, our family is blessed with plenty and we would like to ask the guests to bring a small donation , instaed of a gift, so we could donate it to a chairty in my daughters name, and we can celebrate my daugters birthday with a cake and a good time and know that we have spent our money for a good cause. How do I go about contacting, and finding a chairy to donate to? I would like to donate to something like the ronald macdonald house or something that has to do with helping sick children. Any suggestions would be great.. thanks
p.s. my husband has type one diabetes and if anyone knows of a diabetes charity for children that would be great also..

Contact the rmh to see how to get started & set it up.

At a fundraiser Dinner/Dance for charity, what are some ways to get donations?

Posted by admin on March 15th, 2010 and filed under charity donations | 3 Comments »

Other than asking for donations and having a silent auction or raffle, what are some ways to get donations in funds? (the event is for the benefit of a good cause/charity)

I’ve coordinated six of these things; here’s what I did to get extra $$$.

Don’t serve dessert but have a dessert auction instead~ auction up donated cakes as a silent auction item, be sure that each cake comes with 10 plates and plastic forks so the winner can share dessert with the table. 30 cakes can easily generate between $1000-1500 in extra funds.

Sell lucky stars or shamrocks for a chance to win centerpieces or other prizes.

Have a huge bouquet of 1000 balloons & stuff 10 of them with nice prizes ~ such as tune ups, round of golf, dinner for 2, a bottle of nice wine etc. Sell the tickets for a dollar and make $1000. If the balloons are too much to bother with, borrow a roulette wheel from a party supply house and do it that way with a particular number or two winning the prize.

Have a coat check or parking valet service with a tip jar for charity. This is usually good for $200-300 in tips :)

Another nice thing to have, is what we call a reverse auction. We pick some tangible item that needs to be done for the charity ~ a furnace, outfitting a nursery~ and start the bidding. High bidder’s donation goes to the improvement and his/her name gets put on a little plaque above the room. The bidding on reverse auctions can sometimes go as high as $10,000.
