How do i ask for donations for a softball team?

Posted by admin on March 23rd, 2010 and filed under donations | 5 Comments »

I am the team mom for a minor softball team. This is my first year doing this and I need to call local business for donations for trophies and the end of year banquet. I’m not sure how to ask for the donations. Do i call them? Write a letter? What is best?
What exactly should i say in the letter?

(LETTER)
Dear _____,
I am the team Mom for my daughters baseball team. We are looking for donations for _______. Any amount of money would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
(Your name)
Contact Information:
Address:
Phone Number:
Team Name:

(PHONE CALL)
"Hi, my names _____. I am the team Mother of the ______ team. We are looking for donations to pay for _________. Any donations would help. Thank you. Have a nice day!" Or something like that.

(OTHER IDEAS)
*Bake Sale
*Garage Sale
*Have a cookout and sell hot dogs
*Have an auction
ex: Sell the team members- not like sell, sell them, but like sell them for one hour of gardening….

Good luck! If you don’t raise enough money, do something simple for the banquet, hot dogs, chips, ice cream…. And then the trophy’s aren’t that much.
Have fun! God Bless You!
Have a GrEaT day!

Is there a way to make pre-tax donations to a charity through payroll deduction?

Posted by admin on March 21st, 2010 and filed under donations | 2 Comments »

If an non-profit organization accepts donations, can that money be legally deducted from a paycheck on a pre-tax basis? If this can be done, how would you file the income tax return so that you don’t claim it as a further deduction?

I have been doing payroll for 20 years and have never heard of this.

First, the money you donate to a charity is not exempt from Social Security and Med taxes so it could not be 100% tax free.

And if it could be done your W-2 would reflect a lower gross wage for your Federal. Then as for your tax return at the end of the year, you just don’t claim it. You can only claim donations if you itemize anyway, and unless you own your home, you probably can’t itemize.

Give because it is the right thing to do, not because you want a write off.

How to write a polite rejection letter for donations?

Posted by admin on March 17th, 2010 and filed under donations | 2 Comments »

My business gets so many requests for donations, that I couldn’t possibly give to everyone. How do you politely refuse a request?

Don’t give promises . just reject them and you don’t have to be polite . you are the one working hard to have that money and you only give it to your workers who work hard for you as well . and if you asked yourself for a donation you will be surprised by how the people can be rude with you .

Is it possible to send donations to individuals or families without going through a ‘charity’ organization?

Posted by admin on March 15th, 2010 and filed under donations | 4 Comments »

Say I wanted to set up a venture that would collect and distribute funds to individuals or families who needed extra help in times of need. Are there tax implications for these types of donations (maybe a certain threshold whereby donations become taxable)? Is this legal? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can give money to anyone you want. In America, if you give more than $11,000 from one individual to another individual, then the donor has to pay gift taxes, but that’s it. That doesn’t sound like your problem. However, if you want the donations to be tax-deductible, then it would have to go through a tax-exempt charity. Rather than file IRS paperwork, which is expensive and time-consuming, and yo uhave to file tax forms called 990’s every year after that, just use a church or house of worship for your donations. You have donors write the check to the church, with the individual or family’s name in the memo, and the church cuts the check to the family. Talk to various churches, get the best deal you can (like, perhaps just a one-page agreement that you pick the families, they only take a small percent — perhaps 1-2% — for the bank fees), and that’s it. BTW, most donors don’t care about tax deductions, but some do.

It’s good that you’re warm-hearted and want to help people.

Vlog: Future with YouTube, Haiti Donations, Donated Items for Review and Blog Giveaway

Posted by admin on March 13th, 2010 and filed under donations | 25 Comments »

Hi guys. I have to tell you that it is really nice to be back and have goals regarding my channel and blog that include making videos on a very regular basis. The weather and work have been limiting the time I had available for my videos over the past six weeks. However, the weather is calming down, thus work being easier and I am looking forward to dedicating more and more time to my videos and my blog. It also feels good to know that those that were actually sent me negative messages, have actually motivated me to make many more videos and have giveaways for those that enjoy my videos. So, thank you to the haters, but an even bigger thank you to those that have always supported me. I recognize many of the name in the comments and love to see when my videos are rated and get comments. I always get back to you. Sometimes it takes a few days, but I always read them and will write back. THANKS EVERYONE:)

I hope to have a giveaway at least once a month either on my channel or blog, but this will be the last time I announce the blog giveaway. I will only be posting the giveaway on my blog from now on and then announcing the winner on my channel. All you have to do is follow and comment when the giveaway is posted then you are entered. I absolutely love her blog and count on her reviews to help me make many of my decisions, especially when it comes to upcoming MAC collections and new Urban Decay products. Many of my purchases over the past six months that I love now have been due to her daily emails…I love receiving her daily emails. Sephora gets an order quite a bit after receiving emails from Christine:) Some I adore also, some I don’t, but I still love to hear what she has to say. I am also loving her recent drugstore product reviews as I just refuse to pay $42 for a lipstick, but don’t ever buy drugstore lipsticks…so I am loving her lipstick reviews. However, I love most other drugstore products. SIgn up for her montly newsletter…her last one was also about the new “hot pink” trend and ways to incorporate hot pink if you are not used to the color. Lovin’ the new pink trend and aqua blue trend!

How tax deductible are charitable donations and home equity loans?

Posted by admin on March 13th, 2010 and filed under donations | 3 Comments »

When they say donations and home equity loans are tax deductible, what does this mean? Does a $1000 donation mean $1000 less federal income tax? Does $1000 paid in interest on a home equity loan mean $1000 less federal income tax?

No, these become part of your Itemized Deductions if you plan to itemize. The Itemized Deductions reduce your taxable income, which in turn decreases the amount of tax you would owe.

For example (all hypothetical numbers), if your gross income 20,000 and your itemized deductions are 6,000, then your taxable income becomes 14,000. And the tax is calculated off 14,000. (Of course there is still an exemption to account for, but that’s not what we are talking about).

Tax credits reduce your amount of tax directly. Deductions reduce your income. I hope this all makes sense.
