Do you think it’s just so they’ll feel good about themselves? Now, I know all celebrities don’t do this, but a good portion of them do!
Did you hear that U2 left Ireland to avoid paying taxes? They love to go on about how other people and governments aren’t doing their part for the flavor of the month. OTOH there are people like Dr. Dre and Denzel Washington. Dr. Dre donated $1m of his own money to the 9/11 fund and Denzel hangs out with the troops at Walter Reed. Denzel is so low key about it that the "rumor" was the subject of a snopes article.

Yes, they make it seem like it is so great that they gave $100,000 to a charity but when they make millions every year, they should give lots of money to charity. They publicize it so they look like they are such good people, when they really do it for the tax write-off.
The Bible says that if you do something nice for someone you should not let your left hand know what your right hand does.

I have to say that is rather arragant to do. Then again though the charities are getting recognition by being affiliated with celebrities. So despite the celebrities flaunting about how great they are because of a huge donation. I am glad the charity gets the money and the recognitiion. You know maybe people will follow there example.

They like attention. It’s their job, their self-esteem, their bread and butter. So of course you’re going to hear about it – every little peep and tick. Besides, that stuff is killer PR.
