I enjoy BeadForLife, in which 100% of the profits go towards people in need. This organizations is dedicated to helping women rise out of poverty. Women in uganda roll beads, and sell them here in the U.S. and Canada. They get their fair share, and the rest of the money goes towards helping build the community. This way they can support their family, the children go to school and college ect….. References :
I prefer to donate locally so I can see where my $$ goes. Our local food pantry is 100% volunteer; all the donated funds go to buy food for our community. (we have a separate fund for utilities, no fund for wages or benefits)
Also, beware of large non profits that list their low administrative costs nationally, but perhaps the one in your area is much higher. For example,(website below) thie United Way CEO received $380,000/year salary and a 2,1 million $$ retirement package. I certainly don’t want my donation going there. I don’t know how you "know" that the Red Cross only offers 10% of what they take in to those in need. That’s actually the total opposite of facts.
The Red Cross uses 90% of its funds for program expenses – then 6% for administrative and 4% for fundraising. Program expenses = helping people in need References : http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=3277
