Where can I send clothing donations in Birmingham, AL for Haiti victims?

Posted by admin on February 1st, 2010 and filed under clothes donations | 5 Comments »

I would like to give some clothing to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, but don’t know who in this area is collecting food and clothing. Can you help?

Above posters are right about the probs with sending clothing.

Another free and easy idea is to collect Coke reward codes from bottles and cans and redeem them for donations to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief fund. Coke is also matching reward point donations on a 2-for-1 basis.

Salvation Army and even contact your local universities. I attended a function where a few sororities were collecting clothing and other nonperishable items that were going to be sent to Haiti…

Please read the article from msnbc below. All of the answerers so far ought to read it, too. It really explained a lot to me. We all want to help, but we don’t want to make things worse, right?

Washing, sorting, and clothing is expensive and time consuming. The best thing to do is sell them locally, like at a community fundraiser, and send the money to the organization of your choice.

It’s cheaper, faster, and easier for relief agencies to buy goods close to a disaster. It keeps local businesses going, keeps people employed, and allows them to tailor their resources to what is happening right then.

Please, please read the link Katherine posted, and read these too:
