How can I donate blood outside of the Red Cross?

Posted by admin on February 21st, 2010 and filed under donate | 3 Comments »

For personal reasons, I do not want to donate to the Red Cross, but still would like to donate my blood. Is there any other non-profit organizations that accept donations?
MagnusMoss: It has a long history of not following through with money donations and segregating those who can donate blood. I don’t like the Red Cross in general, but the fact that some eligible blood donors are being denied on petty issues isn’t right.

Out of curiosity, why don’t you like the Red Cross? What kinds of eligible donors are being denied? (They have to turn away gays because the FDA says they have to…they’s fought the FDA on that one)
(Depending on what your issue is, it may or may not apply to other agencies).

Anyway, many large hospitals have their own blood donor programs.

Yes! There may be a local Blood Bank in your neighborhood which is completely independent from the Red Cross. Check americasblood.org or aabb.org to find one close to you.

    Hope that helped!
