How much should I donate for my new girlfriends charity walk?

Posted by admin on March 7th, 2010 and filed under donate | 8 Comments »

We’ve only been dating for about a month but I’ve known her for years. I want to donate enough so she knows I care about her and the cause but I just got out of school and am trying to recover from the cost of college. Any ideas on how much I should donate without seeming like a cheap a$$?

And it’s an autism walk with flat donations. No extra $$ for how long you walk, just a set one time donation.

I think $50 ought to do it. Its not too much to break you but enough to get her attention.

Depends on how much money you make.

If $20 is really a hardship for you, then $5-10 is fine.

If you make like $45 an hour, then give her at least $50-100, if not more.

Besides, you can probably get it as a tax write-off anyway, afaik.

Honestly, if she knows your finacial situation, and doesn’t have any immediate family with autism, she shouldn’t expect too much, and giving like $10-15 bucks (whatever you’re comfortable with, and it also depends on how much you make) would be more than enough, IMO. It’s better than pocket change, and you haven’t been together very long anyway.

If, for example, her brother has autism, then it’s going to be a cause that’s very close to her heart and you should give a little more, or offer some other sort of support (hanging posters, etc) if you can’t do it financially.

In the beginning unquestionably, you must pick yourself, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you had better actually go through with it once it has been decided upon

She knows you just got out of school, so should realize you aren’t "flush" with money. I’d say $20.00 would be a good amount, unless you are independently wealthy and hiding it..

Or how about joining her on the walk? That would give you time together, show her you’re concerned about her cause and you could generate some donations of your own to add to the pot. Any girl in their right mind would be more than happy with that!!

    Go for it.

If you can’t afford it, may I offer a suggestion? How about offering to walk with her and asking her to sign you up?

You both can then go seek donations together and make it a "date" – and a very good one too.
