How can I make sure my donation is going to a white family?

I have been trying to donate money to some Katrina victims from last year and every time I try to enquire where my donation is going they won’t give me an answer. The way I see it is that the government takes care of the black victims enough so I want to make sure this money I’m trying to donate goes to good white families who are still rebuilding from Katrina. Is they’re any donation funds and services available so I can make sure that the people that I’m wanting to help goes to good white families?

The first thing you want to do is determine if you need a tax deduction for your donation. If not, pick some people to give your money to directly. If you need the tax deduction, forget about donating to charities. Instead, look for some local, predominantly white churches in the area. Explain your goal and ask if the chuch has any white families in need. Then, ask to contact the family in need. Explain to the family that you would like to offer support and you are going to use the church to do it. Then, donate to the church, which in turn, gives the money to the family. You get the tax deduction, the money goes exactly where you want it to, AND you get to help somebody in need!

Can I donate brassieres to homeless shelter?

I have a bra that was briefly and very gently used that no longer fits. I hate to see it laying around; can I donate it to the local homeless shelter, or is that kind of tacky and gross? Any input is very welcome. Thanks!

Absolutely! When I was in a domestic violence shelter, bras were like rare gems to find in donated clothing. They’re so expensive, they would be very much appreciated. Panties are a little iffier, but the girl I roomed with was happy to find some of them as well, as she had none at all.

Legitimate charities publish an annual report, just like any business. This lists things like the cost of fund raising, what the officers are paid, rent and other expenses. Ask for one, and study it before you give.

where it is never specified what the money would actually be used for? And then just pocket it?

Don’t bother. You can avoid fraud charges by ADMITTING you are begging for your own use. There are just as many fools that will donate under those circumstances as there are that would donate to an unidentified cause.

What does layering mean at Goodwill?

I accidentally donated some items to Goodwill and I asked a team leader to see if they had it and they brought out the donation worker and said look in the "Layers" What does layers or layering mean at goodwill? Also do they actually have a warehouse that they put unwanted donations or do they just throw the stuff out?

Since they rack stuff according to the type of garment, it makes sense that they would pile the incoming garments according to type also. What happens to the garments between the initial sorting and the eventual racking I’ve no idea.

Is there specific rules for collecting donations (cash & misc Items) for abused wom. & teens?

I have been collecting donations to help not just abused women but women who are just having a hard time starting over and if they have teen age children. I have gotten large amounts of cash plus many stores have donated new clothing, school supplies, furniture, and a lot of stuff people use daily. I am just not sure if I have a legal responsibility for $ amount of donations, or do I just take these things into different shelters and let them handle any filings for these companies to rec a tax deduction. Can someone help me find out? Maybe I should get a office bldg. to store all the things I have and maybe make it so that the receipient has to be reffered to be and picks up what they want by appointment only.

Most states have a regulatory agency for a situation such as this. Persons donating items are allowed to use the donation as a tax deduction therefore they must receive a receipt. Your state regulatory agencies can give you the information to register as a non-profit entity.

I am collecting donations for a non profit organization. I need things like baby blankets, books, stuffed animals, toothbrushes etc.

what u can do is call local businesses and make appointments with the managers to sit and talk with them regarding making donations. put a good presentation together, because if u look sloppy, chances are they won’t donate. I would go to large companies, such as big banks, large grocery stores, etc.

sometimes managers will say they won’t have time to sit and talk, so it might be better to just walk in with ur presentation ready to go (meaning u have pamphlets or other info) and just ask to talk to the manager for a few minutes.

My friend is having a baby and instead of traditional shower gifts, she’s asking that everyone make a donation to her favorite charity.

I found a UK website that allows people to set up MySpace-type pages where their friends and family can click to and make an easy donation, but I’m struggling to find an equivalent in the US.

Anyone have any ideas?

It might be easier if you just gave them a link to the Charity’s web page so they can donate directly.

there are big yellow container around the city for clothing donation or u can go to any church, they will accept everything or they will tell u exatly where to bring the clothes
