Are Goodwill Stores really a charity?

I know they provide employment for workers and they get everything they sell for free as donations. But how are they different from, say Walmart? Walmart provides employment as well. What does Goodwill give back to the community?

Yes they are a not-for-profit organization. Wal-mart pays their employees bubkus and Sam Walton’s family remains bazillionaires from paying their employees so little AKA they (Wally World) are a PROFIT organization. One thing I do know is they (Goodwill) give support to "low functioning" individuals by providing case workers to work with them. They need extra support to be independent in the world such as finding jobs, interviewing, or even housing placement. I’m not sure if "low functioning" is the politically correct word and sorry if it offends anyone.

If you really wish to know what they do, look them up on the web. I am sure there is more to them than what you know

It gives people a chance. And I know the money they make off of clothes and things goes into the community, like Habitat for Humanity.

The money made at Goodwill pays for the costs associated with the building (employees, water, electricity, rent) as well as paying for Goodwill’s charitable projects. Btw, they also give away clothes to those in extreme need, and have a HUGE coat giveaway every winter.
